1. Three things I completed during iStan was administering oxygen via nasal cannula when oxygen sat was at 88%, assisted patient to the bedside commode, obtained a new armband for the patient with correct information and assessed/documented all of the patients allergies that were not listed in the chart.
2. The most I learned most about the situation I encountered is that I should have put my stethoscope on the patient a lot quicker than done. We were distracted by a fellow patient in the room and cleaning up and getting him back to his room and our patient needing to use the bedside commode. Another thing I learned is that when a patient has a digoxin level above a 2, low oxygen sat, tachycardic and getting confused, we need to get an IV started and call the physician to switch his medications to IV route and get an order for Digibind to reverse the dig toxicity.
3. I will focus more on finishing the asssessment of the patient faster and I will think more proactively than just what's on the orders next time in simulation lab. I also need to think more like a nurse who is in charge rather than a student during my next simulation.
4. Three things I learned while watching my peers were to watch for the key signs and symptoms of dig toxicity, completely the assessment in a timely manner to get a good baseline of the patient and how to correctly label and draw blood from the patient.
5. Three things I learned in the classroom that I used during simulation is to always ask about allergies even if there are none listed in their chart, proper body mechanics when assisting a patient to the bedside commode and back to bed, and proper communication with patient.
Having worked with you in clinicals I know how hard you work and I am sure you did the very best you could!!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I learned as a nurse is that there will always be a thousand things going on around you but you have to stay focused on your task. I am confident you will have a better experience next time.
